Our 2026 Leadership
Ann Anderst
President
Ann Anderst has had an extensive career in international and nonprofit development. As a former Peace Corps Volunteer and Regional Recruiter, Anderst has spent years working in international development. Over her 30-year career in nonprofit development, Anderst has secured millions to benefit large and small organizations. Anderst served for 5 years as a chapter director, 2 years as Vice President, and the past six years as President of Healing the Children. She met her husband, Bill, at the 25-year anniversary of the Peace Corps, 40 years ago. They have three adult children, two sons-in-law, and three grand-puppies. Ann enjoys traveling, hiking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends
Richard Shaw
Treasurer
Richard Shaw has been a dedicated volunteer with Healing the Children for more than two decades. Over the years, he has served as the HTC National Treasurer for over 10 years and has supported the HTC Inland Northwest Chapter for more than 20. Although he isn’t a medical professional, Richard is deeply committed to the organization’s mission and vision. Outside of overseeing financial operations at both the national and chapter levels, he works as an IT Systems Manager for a local government. Whenever he can, Richard loves to travel and explore new places with friends.
Ann Brown
Secretary
Ann Brown has been chapter director of Healing the Children Rocky Mountains since its inception in 2015. Making the dream a reality, Ann and her husband run a successful cleft mission to Peru every fall which is how they got involved with HTC back in 2012. They have hosted 2 inbound kids for medical procedures but primarily focus on outbound missions as they raise their family, which includes two young kids and two teenagers. Ann loves to run, hike and cook.
Dr. Jack Stephens
Chief Medical Director
Dr. Jack Stephens has had a long career as a Pediatrician. He spent over 28 years with the Everett Clinic from 1985 - 2013 and 6 years at the Community Health Center of Snohomish County. He retired in 2020. Jack had a special interest in children with disabilities and those with medically complex conditions. He served as a volunteer with Healing the Children Oregon Western Washington (now closed) both as a Pediatrician in Guatemala and as the Board President. Jack joined Healing the Children's National Office at its Chief Medical Officer in 2023 and provides guidance and resources in many aspects of organization. Jack volunteers with CASA as an advocate for abused children's safety. He is also an avid bird photographer and has traveled the world to capture the most fascinating photographs.
Carol Borneman
National Administrator
Carol Borneman, is the backbone of Healing the Children. For over 30 years, she has led all our administrative processes for 15 chapters nationwide. More importantly she is the safety net for every call, every issue, every plan, and every project that HTC endeavors. She is a wealth of experience and knowledge, whom you can ask the question who did what when? ...and she knows. Through her leadership, HTC has been able to secure unique funding opportunities which have kept the national office on solid ground for many years. Without Carol, HTC might not have navigated the challenges of COVID-19, but amazingly all our Chapters survived and now thrive. Carol enjoys time with her husband, family, and sweet poodle Zoey.
